A Reminder: National Caregivers Day is Feb. 17

The third Friday of February is National Caregivers Day, which honors people who provide personal care and physical and emotional support to others. This year, the day lands on Feb. 17.

An increasing number of American adults are becoming unpaid caregivers for family members. Many of your clients and prospects may be part of this sandwich generation — mainly Generation X and millennials who care for both their children and aging parents.

On an ordinary day, caregiving can be a monumental task for working adults. They may juggle school schedules, medical appointments, meal prep, laundry and work. Personal care tasks may include bathing, feeding, shaving or transferring loved ones.

What happens when a client’s family member experiences a serious illness or injury? With income protection insurance, The Standard offers coverage if a family member experiences a disabling event that keeps the employee away from work.

The Standard’s Exclusive Family Care Benefit

As part of Platinum Advantage’s core benefits, the Family Care Benefit provides unique coverage if an employee takes time off from work to care for a family member with a serious health condition.

The Family Care Benefit provides payments if the policyowner works 20% fewer hours and has at least a 20% loss of income due to caring for a seriously ill or injured family member. This can help reduce the financial impact of income loss and medical expenses.
